Article: Mambo, Salsa Basic Steps On 1 Verses On 2 Differences

There is a good video here.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQa_DvzkK9w

The following presumes you know Salsa On 1, which is the most common.

Basically Mambo and Salsa On 1 are the same.

Salsa On 1 you start on the first beat of the music.

Mambo you start on the second beat.

If you are used to dancing Salsa On 1, dancing Mambo to the same music can be difficult.

The difference between Salsa On 1 and Salsa On 2 is when you take your break step. You step on the same beats in the music in both.

Salsa On 1 your first step is your break step, then you take two steps back home.

Salsa On 2 your first step is home and your second step is your break step.

While Mambo and Salsa On 1 feel the same, Salsa On 2 feels different.

The reason being, Salsa On 1 you step out and back home, out and back home.

In Salsa On 2, you take two steps and change direction, two steps and change direction.

Salsa On 1 is stop and go.

Salsa On 2 is more fluid.

You can find more words here.
