"Most people quit just before they are about to succeed". Have you heard anyone say that? I have and I wondered, how do they know?
I have been persevering at more than a few things way beyond the point I wanted to quit and success has not been right around the corner or anywhere in sight. That is discouraging. I guess at times you can see the road others take even when you cannot see your own.
After a few times, Ricki tried to quit my Israeli dance class.
That was too bad, because she really like the dancing and she was progressing as I wanted her to. I often wish we could hypnotize people at dance class and put their conscious mind on hold while we train their bodies.
Ricki was worried because she could not learn the steps as fast as I went through them. I told her I did not want her to learn the steps. I wanted her to learn how to orient herself, keep good posture, match her movement to the music and connect with those in the circle, all of which she was doing well.
The students do not realize they do not have to worry, because the teacher is worrying for them.
I told Ricki she had to go twelve times before she would feel comfortable and she had only been three. She should come at least to the end of March and then see what is up.
She has been two more times since and I spent some private time with her. It seems to me she has gotten over the hump and already feels comfortable, but only she can say.
When the dancing seems hard, keep going. It will get easier.
