Congratulations to everyone on your progress in Israeli Folk Dancing 101 on Monday. You surprised me. I did not expect you would be able to do last week's dances so well and that we would be able to learn three new dances.

All the dances we are learning are from what I like to call the classic period of Israeli dancing. These are the dances from the early years of the re-born state of Israel up to about 1980. The first dance was done around 1924. Of course, the real first dance goes back to ancient times, as it is written "David danced and leapt before the Lord."
