Lindy Hop Rhythm and Variations Lesson and Open Practice

Mon 27 Sep, 8-10 pm. UF Campus, J. Wayne Reitz Union, Dance Studio, Gainesville. Jennifer Fill. Free. UF Swing Dance Club - [facebook][events]

8:00 - 9:00 pm Lindy Hop Rhythm & Variations Lesson
9:00 - 10:00 pm Open Practice

"Rock step, triple step, triple step!" A phrase echoed many a time in Lindy Hop lessons, that 6-count basic which we are all familiar with. But what if we varied that 6-count basic and replaced the rock step or the triple step with something else, like a slide for instance? As a lead or a follow, you can play around independently with varying your footwork and throwing in fun rhythm variations while you dance. The ideas for variations of this kind are endless! If this interests you, then this lesson will cover some ideas for variations you can take with you out to the dance floor and provide you with a framework for approaching your own rhythm and variations in Lindy Hop.

Our guest instructor for this lesson is - drum roll, please - Jennifer Fill. Jen was invited to her first Lindy Hop lesson in 2014 and was instantly obsessed with how much fun dancers were having. The joy of swing dancing led her to participate in many workshops and exchanges at home and abroad. She has a particular love for Solo Jazz and the creativity it brings to individual and partner dancing, and she loves helping dancers have fun expressing themselves and connecting to the music in this way. When she's not dancing, she's... well, she's always dancing.

Join Jen on Monday, Sept. 27, at the UF Reitz Union Dance Studios for a FREE 1-hour special topics lesson followed by 1 hour of open practice. Here is the lowdown:

PRICE: Absolutely FREE!!

WHERE: UF Reitz Union Dance Studios, located in the Lower Level of the UF Reitz Union (take an elevator down to LL, the Lower Level)

PARKING: Parking is free at the Reitz Union Parking Garage after 4:30 pm. For most other parking lots at UF, parking decal restrictions lift after 5:30 pm. I recommend coming 15 minutes early if it's your first time coming to the Reitz Union at UF, to allow for enough time to find the garage and the dance studios.

WHO ARE THESE LESSONS FOR?

All members of the Gainesville community are welcome, this includes UF students and non-students alike! No dance partner is necessary, we will rotate partners frequently throughout the lesson. For this lesson, it is recommended that you have taken at least one Lindy Hop lesson and are familiar with the 6-count Lindy Hop basic.

DM me (Chris Ortega) on Messenger if you have any questions. Looking forward to swing dancing with you.
