Join The Shabbatones of North Florida for an afternoon of music that speaks to where we have been, where we are, and where we are going.
There is no dancing.
Mitzrayim.
The Hebrew name for Egypt shares its root with the word for "narrow place" — a condition, not just a location. Constriction. Pressure. The feeling of being hemmed in with no clear path forward.
Most of us know that feeling intimately.
About the Music
This concert does not recreate the Passover liturgy. Instead, it traces the arc of the Exodus through choral music — voices in harmony, moving together from darkness toward open space, from the narrow place into something new.
The Shabbatones of North Florida bring together sacred and contemporary choral repertoire drawn from the Jewish musical tradition, weaving together texts and melodies that have carried generations through struggle and into hope. From ancient words set in soaring harmonies to luminous modern compositions, the program explores what liberation sounds like when a community raises its voice together.
There is something particular about choral music for a concert like this. A single voice can cry out. But many voices, breathing together, moving together — that is something closer to what freedom actually feels like.
Join us for an afternoon of music that speaks to where we have been, where we are, and where we are going. All are welcome at this table.
